To The Editor,
I am writing this letter to express my enthusiasm for running for the Bedford School Board. As a concerned citizen and a passionate advocate for public education, I believe that serving on the school board is an excellent opportunity to make a positive impact on our community.
Bedford is my hometown. I attended Bedford schools—Peter Woodbury and McKelvie—from first through eighth grade. Raised by educators, my mother, a teacher, and my father, who served our community for thirty years as a principal at Memorial, Peter Woodbury, and McKelvie, instilled in me a deep appreciation for education. The people I love the most have dedicated their lives to Bedford Public Education and building educational excellence in the schools. Like most people in our community, I chose to raise my children in Bedford for the schools. I have a vested interest and believe in Bedford Public Schools.
I am a firm believer in the importance of education as the foundation of our future. I want the best quality education for Bedford's children, including my own. As a parent with children currently in the district, I have firsthand experience at all school levels. I have navigated the 504 and IEP process at all levels and understand the critical role that schools play in shaping the lives of our children. As a member of the Bedford community, I am committed to ensuring that our schools provide the best possible education to all students, regardless of their background or abilities.
I bring a proven track record of speaking before the board and administration, advocating for significant issues, and successfully moving the needle in areas of concern. This experience has equipped me with the skills to effectively address and resolve challenges, ensuring our children's educational environment continues to improve.
In my role on the board, I will work continuously to ensure that our schools continue to provide a five-star education to all students. I believe that our schools should be safe, inclusive, and welcoming places for students. I also believe that our schools should provide a well-rounded education that prepares our students for success in college, career, and life.
As a member of the board, I will be dedicated to enhancing transparency and communication between the board and the community. It's essential that everyone feels heard. I will actively listen to the concerns of parents, students, and educators, collaborating to resolve any challenges we face.
I will advocate for specific, measurable district goals to ensure accountability and visible progress. My commitment extends to being readily accessible, promptly responding to emails and phone calls, and ensuring vital topics are discussed at our monthly board meetings. This strategy is focused on creating a community that is both more involved and better informed, while also ensuring that resources are used wisely to support initiatives that have a clear, positive impact on student achievement and development.
I am committed to working hard and being a dedicated member of the school board if elected. I believe that by working together, we can continue to make our schools the best they can be and provide our children with the education they need to succeed.
Thank you for considering my candidacy for the Bedford School Board. I look forward to serving our community by using my skillset and experience to bring a new mindset, voice, and energy to the school board, while making a positive difference in the lives of our children.
Sincerely,
Sheila MacDonald
